 Organization and Time Management Tips

  • When your child comes home from school, allow at least 30 minutes for him to eat a snack and/or relax. After he has "recharged" his batteries, review his assignment notebook and/or (or check online for the team's website) to verify the assignments.  A flash drive is recommended for transporting files to & from school.
  • Assist your child with estimating how long each assignment will take and make a plan for when it will be done. Place all materials in a container at the homework location. This area should be free from distractions and you may use a timer to help your child with time management.
  • Have your child organize his backpack and folders the night before. Remove and store all graded assignments and place them in a file at home. Discard papers after the midterm & at the end of the trimester.
  • Record T.V. programs to watch after homework is completed.
  • It is best to complete assignments at least 30 minutes before his bedtime. Most middle school students need at least 9 hours of sleep each night.
  • Students may use an accordion type folder (label tabs) with an elastic band to hold all loose papers or 6 individual folders.  Loose papers must be secured.
  • Stretchable fabric book covers (5) are recommended for covering text books.
  • Copies of student texts are available at the public library if the student has forgotten to bring his home.
