Dear Parents,

Recent Facility Improvements
Although Scott School will be hosting a summer school program in June, Worlds of Wisdom offered by National Louis University and two graduate classes for teachers, summer is usually when most building physical improvement projects take place. Nonetheless, you may have noticed the completion of several projects recently, particularly over spring break. The biggest project was the reroofing of the shingled areas of the roof and the replacement of wood soffits and lights at each doorway. Speaking of doors, several exterior doors were replaced as well. The last outdoor project involved rerouting water runoff from the roof at the service entrance. Inside we were able to equip nine classrooms and the computer lab with white boards. In addition, the window blinds in all outdoor facing classrooms were replaced. Finally the building locks have all been rekeyed for increased security. We have a number of building improvement projects tentatively scheduled for the summer including replacing the walls between the classrooms and the hallways with more substantial walls. The current walls are vinyl covered moveable partitions that have served their purpose well, but are in need of replacement.

In the past few years, we have made updating the physical plant at Scott School a priority. I appreciate the school district's commitment to the maintenance of buildings and grounds. Scott School has been very fortunate in this regard. From the remodeling of the Learning Resource Center to building-wide wireless access to the internet, even as our facilities age we have been able to keep pace in providing students with a facility that supports the educational activities that take place here in a building with an appearance that we all can take pride in as well.

Home and School Donations
Even in the challenging economic environment we are all experiencing currently, Scott School parents have continued to support Home and School fundraising events such as the recent Adult Social. As a result, the following items are being purchased to enrich Scott School:
  • (3) Smart Boards
  • (5) tablet/laptop student computers
  • Additional recess equipment
  • Classroom educational materials
  • Landscape edger

Thanks so much!

End of the School Year Notes
  • Thank you to everyone on the Home and School and the School Family Community Partnership (SFCP) organizations for all that you have done. Our school is a better place due to your contributions!
  • A special thank you goes out to Sue Halford, Home and School President, and Sharon Thompson, SFCP co-chair. You both have been great to work with!
  • We are in the process of preparing for the next school year. If you are moving away or if you will have a change of address, please let the school office know. If you have not returned registration materials, please do so at this time.
  • Although I take some vacation time during the summer and also take time to further my own education, I will be in the office over the summer. Please call me at 630-420-6477. Since the secretaries will not be in over most of the summer, the best way to reach me is by e-mail at nmicensky@naperville203.org. Please stay in touch!
Have a great summer and remember to include time for reading with your children.

Sincerely,
Nick R. Micensky
