Around the World

  Around The World

 

The Around the World series started as a parent initiative during the 1996-97 school year. Two River Woods parents thought that students would benefit by having opportunities to understand the variety of cultures that are part of our school community.
 
For the past 10 years, we have been very fortunate to have parent volunteers who take the time to support this very worthwhile program in the LRC. Parent presentations not only stimulate student interest in a variety of cultures, but they are also highly interactive. Visual images are through video and artifacts. Ethnic music and instruments represent the cultures through sound. In the past, students have had the opportunity to sit on Persian rugs, learn to count in other languages, smell herbs and spices, model traditional costumes, and view examples of different characters used in written languages.
 
Students eagerly anticipate the opportunity as each new country is featured. The displays are a popular attraction as students visit the LRC throughout the week. Parents' strong commitment to this project has been evidenced by the high level of participation, enthusiasm, enjoyment, and quality of the presentations. Parents have even adjusted their work schedule to make themselves available to our students. We look forward to the continuation of this valuable and educational program that provides a meaningful and relevant experience for our students.
