Battle of the Books - Is it for you?

Do you like to read books?

Are you willing to meet twice a month to talk about story problems, characters, and events from a wide variety of books?

Do you have a good memory for detail?

Will you be in 4th or 5th grade?

If you answered yes to all of these questions, perhaps Battle of the Books is for you.

Battle of the Books is a club that meets at lunchtime twice a month to explore and read a wide variety of books. These include fiction, non-fiction, mysteries, fantasies, biographies, autobiographies, science fiction, etc. They have been chosen because of their high quality. There are forty books on the reading list. You will be required to read ten of them by December 1. This summer is a great time to get started!

If you have a great memory for details, you may be interested in trying out for our Battle Team. The River Woods Battle Team competes with other schools in our district to determine who can recall the most trivia from this list of forty books. The test to make the team will be in February. If you do not wish to be on the team, you may still join us for the first half of the year. If you are interested, get started by reading some books from the list (on the back) this summer. We will have our first meeting in September. I look forward to reading with you!
