Third Graders Support Our Troops
A trunk-load of home-made cards has gone to our troops in Iraq, thanks to the students in third grade. The students made cards to thank our troops for their sacrifice for our freedom. The students discussed how families cope with having moms and dads gone for extended tours of duty and what it is like growing up with someone in the family in the military.

Fifth Graders Working to be Community Contributors
In fifth grade, we learn about American History and how privileged we are to live in a country where we are free to make our own decisions. These freedoms are because of all the men and women in the armed forces who have made sacrifices to make our lives a little better. Our fifth graders have chosen to share our appreciation for those who are making sacrifices for us today by writing letters to American soldiers who are fighting in the war. We wrote holiday letters in December to bring cheer to our soldiers during the holiday season and then we sent a second batch of letters over to our troops in February to wish them a Happy Valentine's Day. We hope our letters will bring a little bit of America to our troops overseas and let them know how proud we are of them.

Fourth Grade "Contributes to Our Community"

Being a Community Contributor comes naturally for our Fourth Grade students! They are busy through the school year finding ways to make our community a better place.

Thanks to the Fourth Graders, Loaves and Fishes received ""Birthday Bags"" - 100 bags each filled with cake mix, candles, frosting and a birthday card. We know that everyone loves a birthday cake!

Every holiday the students make cards for the residents of Independence Retirement Village for their dinner trays.

In addition, fourth grade started a school-wide drive which they called ""Charity on Parade""- benefitting ADOPT – Animals Deserving of Proper Treatment.

Kindergarten Cares
Ever wonder what you could do with those small bottles of shampoo, soap, lotions, etc. that we all collect when we travel? Ranch View Kindergarten students collect these items for ""Sharing Connection"" in Downers Grove. The students sort and classify these items and put them in decorated bags. The bags are passed out as the need arises, to families or individuals in our community who are in need of personal care products. Learning to help others in our community is important to our Kindergarten boys and girls.

Second Grade Service Project - Families Helping Families
How have second graders become community contributors? They have chosen the organization, Families helping Families as their service project. Families Helping Families is a local organization that helps families with education costs to find a skill for employment, housing, clothing, food, and personal care items.
Second graders created their own frame business as a part of their money savvy curriculum. The children learned how to save, spend, and budget their money, as well as about donating and investing. The profit of $50.00 from their frame business was donated to Families Helping Families.
As a part of their health unit of the care of the body and keeping clean, the second graders decided to work and earn quarters to help Families Helping Families. These quarters were used to wash and dry their clothes at a Laundromat. This year our second graders proudly worked to earn $178.00 in quarters for Families Helping Families! Now 10 Naperville families can wash and dry their clothes and stay healthy and clean! We are very proud of our second graders as community contributors!

First Graders Sponsor Therapy Dog!
How can a dog make you feel better? Our first graders have worked hard to raise money for the Edward Hospital Animal Assisted Therapy Program. They have sponsored many dogs over the past years. Our first graders raise money at home doing chores and helping out. This money is then donated to the hospital to pay for the training of a therapy dog. These dogs visit hospitalized patients for a lot of furry cheer. Look in the hospital lobby for the R.V. plaques we are so proud of. Our dogs are pictured outside of our first grade pod. First graders are rewarded with the wonderful feeling that comes when they help someone in need.
