Class Meets
 
Kindergarten
Once a week for 20 minutes
Grades 1 – 2
Twice a week for 25 minutes
Grades 3 – 5
Twice a week for 30 minutes
 
Class Activities
Students at Ranch View participate in a wide variety of activities in music class, including:
 
Singing – Rhythmic Chants, Folk, Seasonal, and Patriotic Songs including the National Anthem
Movement – Traditional Cultural and Folk Dances, Movement to Changes in Dynamics, Temp, and Form
Playing Instruments – Barred Percussion Instruments (Xylophone, Metallophone, Glockenspiel), Drums, and various other percussion instruments
Students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 also learn to play the recorder, a wind instrument.
Listening – Various styles of music including Folk, Classical, Contemporary, and more
Composing – Create rhythmic and melodic patterns using guidelines
Music Literacy – Identify, read, and perform rhythmic and melodic patterns and identify music symbols
Performances - Grades K – 5 sing, play, and move as part of an all-school program usually held in the fall. 5th graders also share their musical talents at the 5th Grade Program, usually held in May.
Field Trips – 4th graders attend a performance by the Lyric Opera Outreach Program, presented at North Central College.
