PRAIRE PAWS FOR READING WINS AWARD
Prairie Elementary School and Therapy Dogs, Inc. was awarded one of the four Exemplary Partnership Awards presented to D203 Partnerships earlier this month.
Therapy Dogs and their handlers visit Prairie School each week and meet individually with students. Each student reads to the dog for 15 minutes. The dogs are extensively trained and also work as therapy dogs at Edward Hospital. The dogs are great listeners, non judgmental and loving, which research shows boosts fluency, confidence and attitudes toward reading. Marcus, a 2nd grader from Prairie, spoke about his four-legged buddy and how the dog helped him learn to love reading.

Prairie School was recently awarded a $1000 grant from the Illinois Education Association's SCORE (Schools and Community Outreach by Educators) program to be used toward our Prairie Community Garden project.
