Due to a scheduling conflict the date of the 5th Grade Fine Arts Festival/Spring Program has been changed to Thursday, April 24, 2014.  The evening performance will be at 7:00pm in the Prairie gymnasium.  Please mark your calendars with this change!

The Kindergarten Program in our District is changing. To learn more about All Day Kindergarten click here.

Please know that our "Lost and Found" bin is enjoying lots of company these days!  There are many coats, hats, mittens, lunchboxes, and other assorted goodies to be found in there.  Please take a moment to take a peek and reclaim your treasures!

Arrival and Dismissal During Current Construction:
Classes enter the school from the south side of the building and our front entrance as follows: Do not plan to arrive before 8:00am

• Door #1 - Kindergarten, 4th and 5th graders
• Door #14 - 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders

Thank you in advance for your patience and problem solving as we ensure that all of our children get to school safely each day.

The area along Charles Avenue that is directly in front of the school is set-aside as a line-up to "drop-off" students.  Please help keep the line flowing by having your children safely exit your vehicle and then move on when traffic allows so that other families may drop-off their children.  Thank you for your cooperation.

SPOTLIGHT

PRAIRE PAWS FOR READING WINS AWARD

Prairie Elementary School and Therapy Dogs, Inc. was awarded one of the four Exemplary Partnership Awards presented to D203 Partnerships earlier this month.

Therapy Dogs and their handlers visit Prairie School each week and meet individually with students. Each student reads to the dog for 15 minutes. The dogs are extensively trained and also work as therapy dogs at Edward Hospital. The dogs are great listeners, non judgmental and loving, which research shows boosts fluency, confidence and attitudes toward reading. Marcus, a 2nd grader from Prairie, spoke about his four-legged buddy and how the dog helped him learn to love reading.

IEA GRANT AWARDED TO PRAIRIE SCHOOL!

Prairie School was recently awarded a $1000 grant from the Illinois Education Association's SCORE (Schools and Community Outreach by Educators) program to be used toward our Prairie Community Garden project. Thank you to Cathy Clarkin, Mr. Gibson and Barb Ryan for your hard work to make this happen!

National Network of Partnership Schools Award

The National Network of Partnership Schools at Johns Hopkins University invites schools and communities to join together and use research-based approaches to organize and sustain excellent programs that will increase student success in school.  Prairie Elementary School was commended by this group for its activity ""Under the Big Top"". Team members include: Mary-Ann Porter and parents  Mariella Romano, Barbara Ryan, Elizabeth Gretz, Kacie Chitwood, and Kristine Gericke.
