Purpose:

The purpose of the PSAT (Practice SAT) test:

  • When taken as a junior, the PSAT is the qualifying exam for National Merit Scholarship consideration.
  • As a sophomore, a student can take the PSAT as a practice test; thereby preparing them for the junior PSAT.
  • By taking the PSAT, students will also prepare themselves for the format and content of the SAT (a national college entrance exam).

Who takes the PSAT?

It is recommended for high performing 10th and 11th grade students.

Is the PSAT optional or required?

The PSAT test is optional.

What areas does the PSAT test cover?

  • 2 Critical Reading sections
  • 2 Math sections
  • 1 Writing Skills section

What PSAT preparation is available?

Check with the Testing Coordinator on what prep sessions might be available.


 

Test Registration

When is the PSAT test offered?

The PSAT test will be administered at NNHS on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013

Registration Period:

Sept. 10, 2013 - Sept. 20, 2013

Registration Cost:

$25; if registering after Sept. 23rd, cost increases to $30

How do I register for the PSAT test?

Registration forms are available in Student Services 1 or in the Testing Coordinator's Office. Registration form and payment are collected in Student Services 1 during communicated designated times.

What do I do if I missed the PSAT test?

The PSAT test is only offered once per year. There is no make-up exam. The PSAT may be taken during the junior year if a student misses it during their Sophomore year.


 

Test Day Instructions

Test Location:

The PSAT test will be administered at NNHS. Students should arrive outside the lobby at 7:45am. Room assignments will be posted on the outside window. From there, students will be directed to their testing room.

What should I bring on test day?

Students need to bring their photo ID, #2 non-mechanical pencils, an eraser, and a calculator.

Can I bring a snack?

Students will have several short breaks during which a snack can be eaten. Snacks must be stored at the back of or outside of the testing room.

Can I bring my cell phone?

Students may bring a cell phone; however the phone must be powered completely off during testing. If a cell phone is activated during testing, the student's test will be voided.


 

Score Reporting Information

How do I receive my PSAT test scores?

Students scores will be distributed through the Testing Coordinator during the winter.
