After-School Homework Assistance and Other Support

Supervised Open Study (SOS): 

A Place for All Students to Work Three Days a Week after School

     After-school homework assistance in Room 155A offers students a place to work on class assignments at the end of the school day and  prior to leaving the building. From 3:15 to 4:15 P.M. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (beginning this year on Sept. 10, 2009), staff are available to work with students. Although each session ends after the buses leave, families can arrange for students' transportation home. Arranging school bus transportation after SOS can be arranged, given notice of approximately three weeks.

      Expectations for students at all after-school sessions include:

     · arriving promptly at Room 155A after school

    · bringing all necessary materials (e.g., assignment explanations and rubrics)

     The Illinois State Board of Education's Web site provides families with links to information about special education.  The site's "Parents" page states that it provides "information for parents on topics including early childhood special education, Project CHOICES, parent training, and links to the document A Parent's Guide – The Educational Rights of Students with Disabilities in English and Spanish".  Also available from this Web site is a PowerPoint detailing Response to Intervention information.
