Welcome to Community Unit School District 203's Naperville North High School Special Services Dept.

Naperville North High School (NNHS) offers a broad range of supports for students who receive special services, including school nurses, guidance counselors, social workers, psychologists, speech therapists, and special education staff. Students qualifying for Specific Learning Disability programs receive a range of services, from resource to self-contained instruction. The SUCCESS Program provides an instructional environment for students who exhibit emotional/ behavioral disorders. A continuum of services are available for students within the Multi-Needs Program. Itinerant services can also be provided for students who have hearing and/or visual impairments and/or physical challenges. Program titles and general descriptions of special education programs and related services include:

The Resource Program is for students identified as having one or more specific learning disabilities in the areas of reading, mathematics, or written expression and who are capable of receiving instruction in general education classes. Resource services are also provided for students with behavioral or emotional disorders who are not appropriate for the Behavior Disorder Instructional Program. The focus of the program is to provide, for a pre-determined number of minutes per week, organizational study skills and academic strategy supports to compensate for weaknesses. The resource teachers collaborate with general education staff regarding student profiles and accommodations, student progress, and the provision of consultation services. Resource services encourage students to self-advocate and to be aware of their own strengths, weaknesses, and special accommodations needed to be successful at Naperville North and beyond high school. Resource students are case managed by the Resource staff.

The SUCCESS Program serves students with behavioral and/or emotional disabilities which meet federal and state criteria for support. Special classes which parallel the general education curriculum, yet are modified, if needed, to meet individual student needs, are offered in the SUCCESS Program. Students are encouraged to take classes in general education as is appropriate to meet their educational needs. A behavioral level system provides the framework whereby students achieve academic and behavioral expectations. Students receive ongoing counseling and support with the goal of increasing self-esteem and academic success. Students in this program are case managed by the Behavior Disorder Program staff.
