November 2009

Dear Families,

We have had a wonderful October here at Naper.  Students are actively participating in our Running Club,  Battle of the Books, and After School Sports.  Our Bell Tower Banking, run by some of our fourth grade students (and helpful parents and teachers) will begin in November.  We took time to stay safe in the event of a fire during Fire Prevention Week  and to remember to stay drug free throughout the year during Red Ribbon Week.

It was great that so many of you were present at parent/teacher conferences in October.  We so appreciate your attendance. Those school and home connections help strengthen learning for your children.   We look forward to conferences as a time to celebrate successes and to set future goals for our students.  While our district has regularly scheduled conferences in October and March, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher whenever you have a question of importance to you and your child.  Working together, we can create the best possible learning environment for your child.

Many parents were seen zipping into the LRC to the Book Fair before or after conferences.  Our students have even more books to read at home and at school because of your tremendous support.   The proceeds from the Book Fair are utilized to purchase new books for the Learning Resource Center.

We will be cooperating in  the Support Our Troops food drive.  Naper students will be provided with an opportunity to become Community Contributors by collecting specific food items from November 9—13.  The requested food and toiletries items will be shipped to U.S. troops serving our country abroad.

Our “Celebrate the Knight” Live  and Silent Auction Dinner Benefit and our Clothing Resale  were both great successes thanks to the parents and community members who dedicated their time and efforts to help support the school.  Naper is so fortunate to have such dedicated volunteers.  The Naper Home and School uses the money from the fundraisers to help provide special opportunities for our Naper students.  For example, they contribute eleven dollars per student to help fund  entrance and bus fees for field trips.  They also fund the assembly opportunities that extend learning for our students.  Last year, we were able to purchase  Smartboards and MP3 Players  for use in classrooms.  We purchased the monitor for the front hall that displays the wonderful student learning that occurs here at Naper.  Teachers also received money to purchase additional classroom books and materials.  Home and School funds provided opportunities such as support for the Running Club and the computer program Music Ace that is used in our music classes.  Thank you Home and School!

Have a terrific November!

Sincerely,

Julie Beehler
