About the Director

Janel Bach received her B.M.E. from Illinois Wesleyan University with an emphasis in Instrumental Music and a voice minor.  Her primary instrument is saxophone, but Janel also plays flute, clarinet and what she terms "basic piano".  Her Masters Degree is in Music Education, but with a Choral/Vocal Music emphasis, from VanderCook College of Music.  Janel is also an experienced theatrical actress, music director and choreographer, and regularly performs in the greater Chicago area.  She lives in Naperville with her husband and 3 children.

Music at Naper

All students, grades K-5, receive music at Naper School.  Times vary from 25-30 minutes twice a week, for grades 1-5.  Kindergarten receives music for 20 minutes once a week.

Music at Naper incorporates multiple disciplines of Music Education including that of Orff, Kodaly and Dalcroze.  Students have the opportunity to experience music via playing instruments, singing, movement, listening and creating.  Students are exposed to a wide variety of literature, from a variety of genres, eras, countries and cultures.  Our district's textbook, Share the Music, serves as a springboard for this musical learning adventure.

Student grades in Music will be based on not only ability and growth/progress, but also on behavior, effort and participation.

Students in grades 2, 4 and 5 present an annual, themed musical program.  While students in grade 3 participate in a Fine Arts night, where students and parents experience both a Music and Art lesson together!

Students in 4th and 5th grades are also eligible to join the Naper Chorus which meets once a week, on Thursdays, for an hour after school.  The chorus performs two or three times throughout the school year in the evenings.

Field trips, when appropriate, are planned for each grade level in order to expose students to a variety of high-caliber, musical experiences and to greater understand the importance and applicability of music in today's world.
