What is Strategic Reading?

  • Strategic Reading is the middle school reading support program.
 
  • This is an intensive reading class designed to improve reading comprehension in fiction and nonfiction text.
 
  • Reading comprehension instruction includes the following:
    • Reading Strategies
    • Vocabulary Development
    • Word Attack Skills
    • Fluency
  
  • Instruction is delivered in a small class setting.
 
  • The class meets daily for 40 minutes in place of the daily exploratory period.
 
  • Strategic Reading is in addition to the daily language arts block.
