I-Read

Ms. Honey received her BA degree in elementary education. She began her teaching career as a 1^st grade teacher in Woodridge where she later taught 3^rd grade as well. After earning her master's degree in reading and a second teaching certificate as a Reading Specialist, she left Woodridge to initiate a program for struggling readers in Carol Stream. After one year in Carol Stream, she was able to take a few years off to raise her children and later returned to teaching as a Reading Specialist in the Oswego school system. While in Oswego, Ms. Honey worked hard to earn her National Board Certification in Literacy: Reading/Language Arts.   She belongs to the International Reading Association and the Illinois Reading Council where she regularly attends workshops and training to stay abreast of current advances in reading instruction. When the opportunity to teach I Read at Kennedy arose, Ms. Honey happily made the move.

Ms. Honey is very impressed by the commitment to excellence exhibited by the students, staff, and parents of the Kennedy Junior High community and is very happy to be a part of that learning environment. Ms. Honey's I Read program is geared toward helping students reach their highest potential in comprehending text and in developing a love for the written word.

On a personal note, Ms. Honey has two teenage children who live with her in her Plainfield home. After school she can often be found cheering one of them on at their various track and field, cross-country running, or soccer events. When she gets a free minute, she likes reading (imagine that), bike riding, walking, gardening, and cooking.
