LRC Policies

HOURSOur LRC is the Home of Patriot Readers!

Monday through Friday,7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Passes from staff are required for before and after school visits.

JEFFERSON WEBSITE

You've obviously found us here under the Library tab on the top navigation bar.  Notice the other pull-downs/fly-outs to help you find access to our online catalog, subscription databases, book awards program information, web resources, and links to other libraries.

CHECKOUT POLICIES

  • Most books may be checked out for three (3) weeks; Rebecca Caudill, Mock Newbery and Mock Sibert titles for two (2) weeks.
  • Reference materials may be checked out after school  for overnight use.  They must be returned by 8:00 am the next morning. Be careful – these are expensive books!
  • Students may have two (2) items checked out at any given time.   Any student is allowed only one each of the book awards titles, and 8th graders can only have one YA book at a time.
  • You can renew a book if no one has reserved it – unless it’s a Mock Newbery or Rebecca Caudill nominee.
  • Back issues of magazines may be checked out overnight.  The current issues are for use only in the LRC. These must also be turned in by 8:00 am the next school day.
  • Only 8th graders may check out YA books.

CHECKOUT PROCEDURES

  • Bring books to the circulation desk located in the middle of the LRC.  I.D cards are required for students to check out materials, including laptops.  A staff member will scan them for you.
  • A DATE DUE will be stamped inside of your book.  Students are responsible for keeping track of this.  Don’t wait for the overdue slip!
  • Return books in the slot on the front of the circulation desk.
  • Magazines will also be checked out at the circulation desk.  You need to give your first period teacher and room number.
  • Return magazines to LRC staff. These must be returned before 8:00 a.m.
  • Don’t check out a book on your card and give it to a friend.  This only causes trouble. People who forget their ID will probably forget to return books on time, too!

OVERDUE MATERIALS

  • Books turned in after their due date will be charged a flat $1.00 fine.
  • Overdue notices will be issued by your language arts teacher; it is your responsibility to come to the LRC to pay your fine.
  • If you have an unpaid fine, you will not be allowed to check out any other materials until you settle your account.  At the end of the year, you won’t receive your yearbook if you owe us money.
  • If you lose a book, you have to pay the replacement cost of that book.  Paperbacks cost about $6.00.  Hardbacks start at $15.00.
  • If you find a book after you have paid for it, your money will be refunded, minus a $2.00 processing fee.
  • Late magazines are charged $1.00 also.  You will be assessed this fine if you do not bring it back the next day. You will have to pay the replacement cost of the magazine if you LOSE OR DAMAGE a magazine or the bag; treat them with respect!

FINDING MATERIALS

  • Use the on-line catalog (Alex) to find information about LRC materials.  Search by author, title, subject, key words, series, or call number.  Be sure to write down the call number so that you can find the book on the shelf.
  • Specific LRC patron stations are designated as “On-line Catalog Only,” but Alex CAN be accessed from any computer.  Find the flyouts beneath the Library tab on the top navigation of the Jefferson homepage and select the appropriate “On-line Card Catalog” link for Home or School.
  • Use the subscription databases to find quality information for research projects.  These are also located in the flyouts under the Library tab on the top navigation of the webpage, or you can click here to visit the page directly: http://schools.naperville203.org/jefferson/library/Databases.asp
  • You’ll need to be sure to pick up a copy of the password card available at the circ desk, in  your student handbook, or on your teachers’ Blackboard pages.
  • Search Naperville and Lisle Public Libraries via the Internet:  their sites also appear under the Library tab on our web page.

SERVICES

  • Copies and transparencies are available to students for $0.10 a piece during supervised study hours only.
  • Book Reserve:  Fill out a form at the circ desk, and we’ll notify you via your LA teacher when the book you want comes in.
  • Printing documents: check with LRC staff before removing from the printer.

SIGNING IN

  • Please sign in at the circulation desk when working in the LRC unless you are visiting with your entire class.
  • You MUST have a pass from a teacher whenever you’re here on your own (b/4, during, or after school).
  • No group work in the LRC unless your teacher has made arrangements.

SHOW YOUR PATRIOTS’ CHARACTER!

All Jefferson students and staff have the right to use the LRC productively, so:

  • Make informed and INTELLIGENT choices about your behavior, especially in regard to the level of your voice.
  • Demonstrate RESPECT for materials, equipment and personnel of the LRC.
  • Remember to take care of the chairs by not tipping back in them and by pushing them in when you get up.  In the leisure reading area, be gentle in the rockers – they’re not gymnastic equipment!
  • Don’t block traffic during non-class times.
  • Four people to a table at all times.  No more than 14 in the leisure reading area – 1 per rocker, 2 per loveseat, 3 per couch.

COMPUTER USE

The Reference Lab is for students who visit the LRC with a class. If it is necessary to use them during supervised study or lunch, supervision must be arranged with LRC staff and sign-in is required.

Students need to obtain a pass from the CSA to use a computer before/after school or present a pass from a teacher to use one during supervised study. No computer passes are issued for a student’s lunch period.
