Little Lincolns

The Little Lincoln's Love of Literacy Program is getting ready to begin this year in November.  We will divide  into 2 sessions, each having ten meeting times, then a culminating session at the very end!  We will meet after school until 3:10 pm in either Mrs. Sturgeon's or Mrs. Elsen's classrooms.  Pick up will again be in the north parking lot.

Little Lincolns will meet in a first grade classroom. Your teacher will send you over after school. Once there, you will make yourself comfortable, eat your fruit or vegetable snack, and read the 3 or 4 ""just right"" books that you have brought. (A ""just right"" book is at your appropriate reading level.)

Once everyone is settled in and attendance it taken, Mrs. Sturgeon or Mrs. Elsen will read to you the special book of the week! We will discuss it together and do some sharing of our own---sometimes in partners, sometimes in small groups.

Lastly, you will be given an assignment for the following week. For example, an assignment might be seeing only the cover of the next week's special book, (this is called a ""book tease""), and then bringing in a ""text-to-text"" connection book.

Our sessions this year will be on Thursdays after school until 3:10 pm. Session 1 will meet Sept. 29., Oct. 6, Oct. 13., Oct. 20., Oct. 27., Nov. 3, Nov. 10, Nov. 17, and Nov. 24.
Session 2 will meet Dec. 1, Dec. 8, Jan. 5, Jan. 12, Jan. 19, Jan. 26, Feb. 2, Feb. 9, and Feb. 16.

The last culminating session for both groups will be Feb. 23rd.
Field Trip (Paramount Theatre in Aurora)...Both Sessions: March 3rd "If You Give a Pig a Pancake'"

While we would love to make everyone happy by asking a preferred session, please keep in mind that this may in fact be a difficult task for us to complete. Therefore, please do not request a specific session unless absolutely necessary. And even then, we can not promise to grant this request. We will do our best to work with you and find a fair solution and session for you and all the other students participating.

Contact Mrs. Sturgeon for more information.
