Chess Team

Thank you for your interest in the Chess Team. We are very excited to offer this opportunity to the 25 Elmwood students interested in participating on the Team. We are fortunate to have a rated USCF player, Bud Terbell back again, along with a team of solid volunteers to offer instruction and coaching in preparation for tournament play. Thank you in advance to all the volunteers. We will follow up with volunteers directly, providing detailed information on the Team needs.

So when does the fun begin?

Chess Team will take place on Wednesdays after school in the gym from 2:30-4:00 from November 11th, 2009 through March 3rd, 2010. We have extended the length of weekly practice to give members more experience, in addition to playing the game at home. Each week Team members will come to the gym with their belongings and a "peanut-free
snack and drink", ready to play. Members will be escorted to the drop off lane for pick up. All we ask is your timely arrival.

What about the tournaments?

We are currently in the process of identifying viable US Chess Federation (USCF) tournaments and also the potential of having an inter-school tournament. As of now, it’s not necessary to join the USCF individually as we are also investigating group discounts and possible fundraising opportunities to support tournament fees. We will get you
information as we get it.

In the meantime, mark your calendar for November 11th and we’ll see you
