Library Resource Center

The Naperville Central Library Resource Center (LRC) is full-service library.  Everything you need in a library is available to students and staff alike.  The following information should help you when you need answers to questions, space to work, and information on ANY topic or issue.

PHILOSOPHY
OUr Library Media Program is an integral part of the educational process.  OUr mission is to provide excellent resources, programs and services to our educational community in order to graduate students who are effective users of ideas and information in their pursuit of lifelong learning.


HOURS
The LRC is open from 7:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Early closings may occur for special meetings or facility usage for special events.  Students who need to stay later may contact Mrs. Peterson or Mr. Bohdan and arrangements can be made for a time extension.

SERVICES
As a full-service library, the NCHS LRC offers a wide variety of services available to students and staff.

  • Quiet study areas
  • Photo copy service (five cents per copy, max of ten copies per original)
  • Classrooms and meeting areas
  • Computer access (15 computers) to online catalog, databases, and the Internet
  • Adjacent CAI Lab computers and technology service personnel
  • Satellite Dish capabilities
  • Interlibrary Loan of materials from 45 Illinois universities and colleges as well as from most Illinois public libraries
  • Recreational reading materials
  • Reference & Research assistance 

RESOURCES
Not only are the services broad, but the resources provided are directly related to the special needs of students and their curricular demands.

  • Computerized catalog, available 24/7 from both inside and outside the building
  • 18,000+ collection of books, videos, maps, posters, and reference materials
  • Access to more than 25 online subscription databases (full-text peridicals, unique reference works, and other educationally relevant tools) available 24/7 from both inside and outside the building
  • Fourteen Internet-connected computers
  • Daily and weekly newspapers
  • 80+ popular magazines
  • Vertical Files on major research topics and country information 

 CIRCULATION
Students and staff are encouraged to check out the resources available to them.  Few are restricted to in-library use only.  Below is a table listing the types of circulation times and fines imposed for overdue materials.  Fines are calculated on a Per School Day basis.

Interlibrary Loan usually 10-14 days min. 25 cents OR set by lending library

The staff in the LRC consists of:

  • Two full-time, certified Library Media Specialists, Mr. Thomas C. Bohdan & Mrs. Lauren Peterson
  • Three full-time library assistants
    • Mrs. Donna Finke, Circulation
    • Mrs. Donna Schuster, Cataloging & Volunteers Coordinator
    • Mrs. Mary Lake, Periodicals
