COMMUNITY

Naperville, Illinois, is a suburban community with a population of 142,900 people.
Located thirty miles west of Chicago on Interstate 88 in the ""high-tech corridor,"" it is
surrounded by BP, Lucent Technologies, Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Because of the research and business climate, residents are primarily professionals.

SCHOOL

Naperville Central High School is a public, four-year comprehensive school with 224
certified staff members, a majority of whom have a Masters degree or beyond. The school day consists of eight 50-minute periods. All classes meet 5 days a week during two 18 week semesters. Enrollment for the 2007-2008 school year was 3,039: 730 seniors, 809 juniors, 780 sophomores and 720 freshmen.

 

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

For the Class of 2009 a total of 21 credits are required for graduation:

CLASS RANK

Beginning with the 2006-07 school year, Naperville Central discontinued the practice of ranking our students.  Class rank, class rank percentiles and eciles will not appear on our transcripts.

GRADING SYSTEM

NCHS has both non-weighted and weighted grades.

Honors courses are identified on the transcript with an "H" next to the course.

Grade point averages are computed at the end of the first through eighth semesters and excludes Driver Education.  The highest GP for the Class of 2007 was 4.727.  The GPA at the 90th percentile was 4.057, and at the 75th percentile was 3.780.

Naperville Central offers a wide variety of courses in order to challenge each student to achieve his/her potential.  With sufficient enrollment, the following Advanced Placement courses are offered:

  • 201 students were named as Illinois State Scholars
  • 14 were named National Merit Finalists
  • 21 received Commended Status.

POST SECONDARY PLANS

Based on a 98% questionnaire return, 85% of the Class of 2008 enrolled in a four-year college, 13% enrolled in a two-year college, and 2% entered the military/vocational/workforce.
